chinese 3 (reflection below)
about me: reflection
This year was a difficult one. A lot of pressure was put on me, but that's usual for junior year. However, I felt like I became a more productive person and grew to meet the challenges that arose.
In Chinese class, I was able to keep up with all the work put upon us. It was hard, but worth it, as it pushed me to discover my capacity to work. I really enjoy the people and Du laoshi! Overall, it was a stressful and rewarding year. recommendation:
I appreciate all the hard Du laoshi put into the teaching. I would say that adding extra assignments randomly can be hard for the student to keep up. Also, I think keeping the students more accountable for their work is important, so going around and individually checking assignments is good. That advice also goes both ways, as Du laoshi should only assign as much work as she can physically check. This keeps the students more honest, less lazy, and more focused during class and doing homework. Otherwise, if the same thing continues where people aren't motivated to learn and end up turning in 80% of the assigned work with minimal effort. |
Reflection Questions
Part 1: Chinese Class
Part 2: High School Life
- Please talk about your experience in Chinese at Logan. Do you think you are learning enough? Is it useful? Why?
- My Chinese experience was okay, but this year was really stressful. I feel like I'm learning enough to understand a simple conversation, but not enough to participate. It is useful when you just want to understand basic colloquialisms.
- What parts do you think are the easiest to learn? The most difficult to learn? Why?
- The easiest part to learn in Chinese is the pinyin or the way the pinyin should sound. This is because it uses Latin letters. The hardest is always the characters, especially the double character ones, because the strokes are hard to memorize.
- Learning Chinese for the past few years, what homework do you think is the easiest to do? Hardest to do Why?
- The easiest homework is the hanzi sheet because it becomes easy when you can just shut your brain off and multitask with it. The hardest homework is the diary entry because it requires you to really brainstorm what to put.
- What is the most interesting lesson for you? Why?
- The most interesting lesson was the sick unit. This is because I like the medical field so I can attribute it to that.
- Before the exam, how did you usually review Chinese?
- I like to look through the textbook at the lesson so I can get an overview of it.
- If you want to give some advice to your classmate, what will you tell them?
- I will tell them to stay on top of things and don't wait last minute because it can be stressful catching back up.
- If you want to give the teacher some advice, what will you tell the teacher?
- If I had to give advice I would say to only assign homework that can be checked for sure. If you keep assigning hw that you don't end up checking, people start getting lazy and end up not doing a lot of the work given.
- Will you continue to study Chinese after you graduate? Why or why not?
- I might continue to study. I have CHinese relatives so I'm always encouraged to study, but I may try to explore China or something for fun.
Part 2: High School Life
- Most memorable things, good or bad?
- The most memorable things are my track and field and cross-country meets because I get to do what I like to do and hang out with friends afterwards.
- What things are boring and interesting? Why?
- The boring things are days where there's no hw assigned and there's nothing to do because I'd rather sleep. The interesting parts are when I'm in a good class and I learn something new because I always find it fun to do so.
- What do you think of yourself? What changed? Do you like these changes?
- I think I definitely matured a little bit. I still act like a little kid at times but I can tone it down more effectively. I like the changes because I can "code switch" a bit better.
- Are you involved any clubs, school activities, or sports teams? Is there a harvest? What kind of harvest? Would you advise your classmate to participate in any of these? Why or why not?
- I'm involved with cross-country and track and field. I think everyone should try it because it's a good way to make new friends and form a healthy lifestyle.

- If you can change anything about yourself from the past four years of high school, what would you change? Why?
- I would definately change the classes I took this year (junior year) and try to challenge myself and plan ahead a bit more.
